Some people have complained that I don't blog enough :S I'm sorry still kind of busy....

This has kept me from blogging (at least 10 minutes) ;)

I was so inspired by all those etsians making buttons themselves, that I bought a small button making set and I used fabric straps that I got from my sewing neighbor to make cute little blue buttons. I think I will make more :) It's a nice way to use left over fabrics!

I'll probably list them in my shop soon :)

But well it gives you the chance to dress up a bit and look like a clown (lipstick). So I have my dress and something in my hair (which perfectly matches my shoes!). The hair piece was handmade by me (to fit those shoes) and my earrings as well (to fit a line on my shoes). :) So it's a bit of a handmade wedding (for me) ;))

Leaving the "community"

Well the last week I've met the back side of being part of a community at Etsy.

Generally one assumes that it's an asset to be part of a community, but I know now that in some cases it isn't. Sometimes it's just better to not be in one or at least feel independent. In a case of a business, to just do your own thing and be good at it. Businesses in real life also don't meet each other daily. They just organize get togethers ever month or so (or even less).

But at Etsy every seller is a buyer as well and some sellers use this fact to annoy other sellers with their (apparently not by themselves selling) items in a way that annoys me incredibly.

Yesterday I reached the maximum when I saw one of those begging sellers leave the forum of Etsy all "devastated" since she was pointed out that her selling methods were inferior (not only by me and also in different threads). Clearly asking for attention. And two hours later she was back, back with her buy from me posts on every second page (or do I mean twice on every page?) of the EST forum.

This annoys me and so I had a good night rest tonight and decided that I can think of these people as losers..... but I'm being a loser myself in this way. Since I've tried to overturn this kind of spamming in the forum and it didn't help. Now it's only a loss of time to be there.

So I decided to leave. Maybe not for good, but maybe till I reach a kind of zen status that I can cope with people that tell you the whole day that they don't have any money, that they need money, that they never get on the FP, never get a sale, yadayadayada.... Start creating I would say!! They will need a lesson of "added value to your product"... If you keep on selling products where don't put any added value to your product, you won't get more money! And begging might work for you now, but on the long run it's better to improve your product and increase your time spend in this product improvement and not in pyramid structured BNR treasuries. Well you see.....probably I will never reach that zen moment.. but well who knows....

For now I will try to walk into a new direction, make my own way.. Etsy says that's it's good to be part of a group, but when a group is taken over by a bunch of beggers I don't see the point of being present there. So we'll see where the road ends....

For now I feel liberated at least :)
And to celebrate that I made an anti BNR treasury so to say.. full with beautiful items with a lot of added value and that fit very well together.

In june we had a lot of ETSY visitors at our place and one of them was Anastasia. Anastasia makes the most incredible jewelry.

By now I own a pair of earrings and a set of matrosjka's made by her. I love wearing them both. But especially the last set is very unique!

Anastasia also asked me to knit her a custom sleeve :) And today it finally arrived!! :) And look she already made a picture of it :) Now I know that my sleeves can be photographed in another way as well! :) Isn't the picture wonderful?

What if "somebody is inspired" by your work...

...tells you that, and a few weeks later you look at her flickr roll and see that she made her own interpretation (which is almost identical) of your work and posted it in a blogpost without EVEN referring to you? I know the person is not selling it (for now), but I think in this handmade world, it would be proper to mention the place where you got your idea (if it's clearly not your own). But maybe I'm a strange person in this handmade world, since in science we're allowed to use other peoples ideas, but we are obliged to make a reference. I think it would be proper if people would do that in craft and design as well (when they consider copying).

Well, since I know the person is following my blog I'm hoping to reach the copier in this way... or maybe I'm only trying to get this frustration of my shoulder :)

Some cleaned up and some still a bit messy, but who cares ;)

First a few pictures of my print from Pinipiru, which still isn't hung, but it has a place on the dining room table for now :)

And now some pictures of our upper floor. Our workroom is there. As you can see it's still a bit messy. But it looks much better than before I promise you that! At this point you only see some of the yarn, but on the other side of the room another big part is hidden ;) We have great light in the afternoon on this side, but it makes making pictures a bit difficult.

And I finally filled my letter box! Partly with it's letters and partly with stamps. I like how it looks. The white cupboard is filled with yarn as well.

Here you can see the street sign that my boyfriend got for getting his phd from his colleagues. I like that one too. Now it has a place where we can see it.

And the brown small sewingbox on the left on the floor (picture below) I found outside ready to be thrown away. It's so cute and it can hold tons of sewing supplies (which it does now ;)). I like finding old furniture and giving it a new place. We don't know how long we will stay in this house or this country so it's not very smart to buy a lot of new furniture.

Now I hope to find a great cupboard for the right side to put all my stuff in so that it won't stay a mess.

My first piece of wall art! I was planning to make it for so long and now I found the time to finish it. I'm so happy with the result. It really stands out on your wall and at the same time it gives his surroundings some rest due to its natural and simplistic look.

This piece of wall art is made in an wooden embroidery hoop. But instead of filling it with embroidery fabric, I've knitted my own basis and embroidered it with yarn.

The knitting and embroidering are made from 100% cotton yarn. The hoop measures 16cm/6,2inch

We made dinner for each other

We made everything from scratch :) Our kitchen is very small, so that posed a challenge.

But we made it!

We made an indian vegetarian mix of dishes. Bread with potato filling. Some curry with veggies. Rice with coriander and almonds and yoghurt with herbs, cucumber and radish. Yum!

And even dessert :) which was great! It's pudding with orange, mango and lime mix in between.

Topped with almond cookies!

And now we have food left for the rest of the week ;)

I will try to keep you updated on my progress again for the Sunday Market in Amsterdam. After making my seal wax tags this week I'm trying out some new tags. But first have a look at these :) I'm so proud. Now I have to find a place to buy some other colors of wax :) Any tips?

These tags are made out of recycled cardboard. Since I love recycling I'm trying something new now. I started cutting up old boxes since I receive a lot of boxes. I normally would throw them away but this is a nice new purpose for them.

I'm collecting them in something repurposed as well. At work one of my colleagues gave me these huge tins (with lid) which they get with ordering coffee at work. I can now use them to keep my stash of cardboard cards clean and safe!

Next time I will show you my new card carrousel. I'm very happy with that one as well. But for now: Have a nice weekend!

I donate monthly to the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) because I support their work.

And so I get a lot monthly mailings with information about the situation of animals all over the world. A few weeks ago I got this mailing about the bad situation in Mongolia where people and animals don't have enough food due to bad weather. You can donate and help the people and the animals to get through this winter! I already did! You can click on the picture and you will be redirected to their page for more information(in Dutch). Mail! and a new sleeve

I wanted to buy a lavender sachet from FricDeMentol a long time ago, but I didn't dare. And then when I decided to buy it, it was sold out. But then a few days later I found them in her shop again and I'm so happy with it! I also got a cute card from her :) now have to think if I should send it or FRAME it :) It's so nice!

But the sachet is special too, it smells terrific! Now I have to find a perfect place for it. It's called the girl who knitted love.

And I finished a sleeve today! One which is a bit softer in tones than my normal sleeves. Just because it's spring and because some people just like soft tones better! I think it worked out very well. Don't you?

Unexpected gifts are the best

I celebrated my birthday this weekend, well not a real celebration. We just went away for the weekend. On Monday we came back and I had to rush and make some cakes for work for the next day. I managed to find an open shop to buy the ingredients, but I totally forgot that my mixer broke and that I was saving for a Thermomix, so I hadn't decided yet if I would buy a simple mixer. A Thermomix is an incredible machine, but more about that later. Just some sneak peak pictures for now:

Well as I said, I didn't buy a new one and now I had to make some cakes! But how? Well fortunately we have some nice neighbors around so I went to one of them and asked her if I could borrow hers, because mine broke down and the shops were closed so I couldn't buy a new one at that moment. She went in to look for her mixer and came back with one! Not hers, but her fathers. Her father recently died at an old age, but she took care of him and she's still in her mourning period.

She offered me her fathers mixer. She had one already and this one came from her fathers house. I could have it! I was totally surprised and asked her if she was sure. But she was sure and from now on I will give her every time some of the cake that I make with the mixer! Yesterdays was finished at work, but I'm sure I will have some if I make it for home purposes!

Besides the unexpected gift story, the mixer is also mighty cute and retro. Nothing was missing and even the Philips box is fun and colorful!

So thank you neighbor for this unexpected, stylish and useful "birthday" gift!

Flowers brighten up a rainy day

A week ago or so we cleaned up our front and back garden. So that existing plants could come up and we could put some newbies in there as well. I like how everything worked out. And I especially like the brightness of the flowers. They make you smile even on a rainy day like today.

New Inspiration: Roroism

I was knitting a mustard sleeve, but I wasn't sure about the in between colors. I knew I saw a mustard sweater worn with pink, bordeaux and aubergine flowers somewhere. I loved it, so I used those colors as well in my creation. Today I wanted to give the creator of the flower brooch a little feature, to thank her for the inspiration, but I wasn't sure who made it and where I saw it. But I found it!! You can find some great brooch creations at Roroisms shop. I just love her creations. Especially her Pansy Pins.

I don't know if I was directly inspired by some EST members or it was only because I browse their shops once in a while and the images just flow into my mind. But I finished this sleeve yesterday evening and you can see what influenced me on the pictures below. I just love this sleeve. It's a perfect combo between drama & playfulness .

And I thought that Fleur might have been my only influence. But when I visited Dawns blog today I realized that browsing her stuff also might have influenced me. Dawn makes great bags and wonderful cuffs. Just visit her shop to give your eye some pleasure.

I think it's interesting to see how people around you influence you by their creations. I'm making something totally different, but still get inspired by their creations. Same thing happens to me when I see a beautiful treasury on Etsy. So thank you Fleur, Dawn and all the other EST and ETSY members for your indirect creative input!

Romeo & Juliet on Valentine's Day

Not so much romance going on here. As we don't celebrate this day. ;)

But watching the old movie of Romeo and Juliet reminded me of a very old picture I have of me in Verona. My mother was/is a big fan of this story and therefore I had to pose on every corner that reminded her of this movie. This one really captures the Romeo & Juliet feeling for me.
I just had to share it with you, since it is Valentine's day.

Look what just came by (really 5 minutes ago)!

People do still protest against ... well whatever!

In this case they want to keep a certain place open for free housing. A few weeks ago they already tried to break open a place across the canal so they could go and live there (for free). The building has been "empty" for years now.

And well... who can blame them? If you live in the city centre on this canal, there is always something interesting happening as you can see! ;)

Flickr Favorites: Galicnik

I made this Flickr Favorites because lately I've been thinking a lot about the village where my grandfather was born. I spend all my summers in this village when I lived in Macedonia and I loved it. One day I will rebuild our little house there. Which now looks like the one on the picture. The old woman on the picture is actually well known in the village. She is one of the few people left, who still lives there (kind of permanently). It's really one of the best places I've seen in my life.

Peaceful, clean, quiet & green.

Last time I was there, I visited the town after 12 years or so and everybody still remembered me from when I was little and they told me stories about my grandparents. When I walked through the street with people from the village, old people asked out loud: "From who is she?" and the person would say: "From Pakovski" and they would respond: "Ah, she looks like her grandma!"
It's a nice feeling of coming home.
